Services at Physiofit
Physiofit was established in October 2005 when Lisa Banfield and Marilyn Jordan commenced practice in High Street, Launceston, in response to growing demand for more specialised physiotherapy services in the Launceston area. The unique and welcoming environment created by Lisa, Marilyn, and their staff resulted in our expansion into a building of our own at 305 Wellington St. A large and bright gymnasium was built to accommodate our services as well as those offered by our orthotist and prosthesist, Prem Anandam.
Physiofit has six fully-qualified physiotherapists who are trained to deliver a range of general services, including treatment of sports injuries, muscle & ligament sprains, low back pain, neck pain, headaches, and gait assessments. We also offer more specialised services for the treatment of women’s health issues including incontinence and pregnancy realted issues, and chronic medical conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, and arthritis. More recently we have become the Launceston provider for the Pink Pilates Program for women with cancer (to learn more about Pink Pilates go to pincandsteel.com). We also offer hospital visits for post natal women, gynaecological and urological surgery.
Our mutlidisciplinary team includes remedial massage therapists who are able to provide a range of services, including sports, deep tissue, lymphoedema, and relaxation massages. We also offer personalised, one on one exercise sessions with experienced personal trainers, which are available at competitive rates, and may be claimable against your private health insurance.
Exercise classes catering for all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities run throughout the day between Monday and Friday. They offer a diverse range of approaches to fitness and rehabilitation, and include hydrotherapy, water aerobics, pilates (including beginners pilates and antenatal pilates), core strength, flexibility, weight training, chair-based resistance exercises for the beginners and a falls prevention class. Pack your smile and bad jokes in with your towel and drink bottle, because our classes aren’t loud and intimidating like the ones at your gym: we create a supportive and motivating atmosphere where everyone can have a good time and feel comfortable working at their own level.
Michael Lowe, Jacob Sluis, Dylan Hill – Personal Trainers. Available weekdays and some evenings. Personal Training costs: $45 per 1/2 hour or $90 per hour (come as a group and share costs)
Robyn Buchanan, JJ Pullinger, Denise Wesley – Massage Therapists. Monday to Friday. Massage: $50 per half hour, $65 per 45 minutes, or $75 per hour (rebate available with most health funds)
Aquafitness. Using the 15 metre pool at the Glenara Lakes retirement village, our popular aquafitness classes involve groups of 10 to 15 participants engaging in whole body activities to promote general health & wellbeing, rehabilitation from surgeries, and easing of aches and pains.
Hydrotherapy. Our hydrotherapy classes at the Launceston Aquatic Centre contain small groups of individuals, performing a specially designed and supervised program of exercises unique to their needs and usually targeted at very specific rehabilitation concerns.
Stronger for Longer. A challenging weight session for the Over 50′s . Ideal for intermediate and advanced exercisers, Stronger for Longer will help you perform day-to-day activities more effectively as well as offset age-related declines in muscle tone and strength.
Wellness with Weights. A gentle, chair-based exercise class to improve strength, balance and flexibility. Ideal for people with osteoporosis, poor balance and arthritis.
Up and Go: Falls Prevention. A gentle class that focuses on exercises to improve strength and balance. Ideal for beginners.
Resistance training. A weight training class for all ages and fitness levels. You will use traditional gym equipment, including dumbbells, bars, and fitballs, to help you build and maintain strength and lose weight.
. Classes for you to learn all about how to massage your baby safely, the best techniques to use, what oils to use, when is the best time and how to adapt the techniques for children with special needs.
Muscles for Men. Weight training for men only. Designed to improve strength and fitness for all ages.
Floor & Core. A class designed to improve pelvic floor strength and endurance for your bladder and bowel control, as well as improving your whole core. This class tries to make boring exercises interesting!
Preliminary Pilates. Intended as the first step towards core retraining and restrengthening. The class involves simple mat work and gentle exercises designed to prepare you for further development.
Pilates. A series of low impact pilates exercises. Designed to promote core strength and stability, posture and effective use of the body.
Antenatal Pilates. A gentle Pilates class specifically for pregnant women. The class aims to improve core, pelvic floor and overall strength, as well as promote flexibility and help ease any aches and pains.
Post Natal Exercises. Exercise for new mums using fitballs, hand weights and more. Improve core stability, strength and fitness and meet other new mums. Babies most welcome.
Back and Core Care. A class suitable for people that need to focus on core strengthening. In particular, this class is suitable for those with special problems and injuries.
Group Personal Training. A varied group session using all types of equipment depending on our clients’ goals. Get your own group together and share the costs!
